Match report Superb James Leads 1st XI To Convincing Win Over Hursley Park

Liss arrived at Hursley Park on the back of four successive wins high on confidence. Liss lost the toss and were inserted to bat on what looked to be a decent batting track. Liss got off to a poor start after losing Pleace Jnr leaving a delivery that jagged back to take his off stump for the second successive week. Hall then came to the crease and his innings was brief as he got a leading edge and departed for 5. Munt then came in and joined the patient Martin before he fell caught behind for 3. Cover then came to join Martin at the crease and the pair went about rebuilding the innings. Cover looked fluent at the crease striking a number of crisp boundaries. Martin was also looking comfortable against one of the more average attacks Liss had come up against this year. Unfortunately for Liss when both were looking comfortable they both fell in quick succession playing loose shots. This left Liss reeling on 96-6 with the innings in the balance. James in at 6 and Baul at 7 took time to play themselves in with over half the innings left. James played patiently making the most of the gaps in the field while Baul struck with some lusty blows at the other end. While James continued to build his innings Baul fell trying to go over the ropes again skying one to cover. Lee then came in and supported James well as the pair pushed the score along taking advantage of the loose deliveries that Hursley were giving. James did however survive a scare on 25 when he miss timed a rank delivery to backward square leg which was put down. Lee then fell which brought Murphy to the crease with Liss still needing more runs to give them a total to bowl at. James and Murphy combined well and put on a good partnership with James passing a well earned fifty and starting to dominate the Hursley attack. These two continued to score freely until James came down the track and missed one and was bowled for an excellent and timely 76. This brought in Janczur who batted with Murhpy and the two pushed the score towards 225 for an extra batting point. Janczur then fell LBW for 12 and Murhpy soon holed out quickly afterward's finishing on with a crucial 42. Liss yet again took the the field in good spirits after recovering from an ominous position. Baul and Janczur opened up and the pair started tightly as usual giving nothing away. Baul who found an excellent rhythm early removed Branford LWB for 1. He soon after had Mansbridge caught behind for 2. This brought Palmer and Jones to the crease, Palmer attacked from the start trying to drive at any width. Jones was also batting well until he had a delivery that kept extremely low from Baul and was bowled for 12. It was then Palmer next to fall being caught off Janczur by Munt. Baul then had Cockram caught behind for 2 leaving Hursley in big trouble on 30-5. Baul finished his spell with excellent figures of 4-18 from his 10 with Janczur picking up 1 for 25 from 10. Cover and Murphy then came on to try and finish things off. Conroy and Evans rebuilt slowly pushing the score along before Cover accounted for Evans with a slower ball before Conroy was caught off Murphy for 22. Hursly then continued to take there time without ever having the attacking intent or wickets in hand to trouble Liss. Murphy and Cover accounted for another wicket each before Pleace Snr came on to pick up the last wicket. Another excellent victory for Liss to make it 5 wins from 5. Liss host bottom of the league Portsmouth on Saturday as they look to maintain there unbeaten record.
